After what happened to my lens, explained in a previous post, I feel like I should blog about how to protect your camera and equipment. Although there's really no absolute way to protect your lens from that much damage, other than being careful, you can protect your lens from scratches. You should always buy a UV/skylight filter for your lens. You can get them for around $10 from your local photography store. Would you rather pay $10 for a filter or $100+ for a new lens?
Always cap your lenses and keep them in a case when you're not using them.
When you're not using your camera, put it into a bag so it doesn't get damaged.
A case like this would be great. You can keep all your equipment in one place!
I've had an interest in photography for a few years now. Everything I know about photography, I've learned from my friends, classmates, teachers and personal experiences. I started out by joining the photography club in high school. At the time, I only had your average point and shoot digital camera. I didn’t get my first SLR until a couple years later and my first DSLR until a year after that. I had my first formal photography class during my freshmen year of college, which is also when I first started experimenting with film. In no way am I an expert. In fact, I still have quite a lot to learn. So join me on this quest for new knowledge.
